How to use the online mirror
-
Turn on the mirror. Click Start camera and choose Allow when your browser asks to use the camera. Your picture appears flipped, just like a real mirror, and the status says Mirror is on.
- Go full screen. Click Fullscreen, press F or double-click the picture to fill the whole screen.
-
Light your face. Turn on Ring light to surround the picture with a bright frame. Make it wider or warmer in Settings, and turn your screen brightness all the way up.
-
Zoom in. Use the + and − buttons on the picture or the zoom slider to get closer, then drag the picture to look around. If your camera has an optical or hardware zoom, a separate Camera zoom slider appears too.
-
Fine-tune. Adjust brightness and contrast, try a filter, set the ring light size and color, or switch on the grid to check that you’re centered and level.

Why does my webcam show a mirror image?
Most video apps flip your own preview horizontally, like a bathroom mirror, because that is the face you are used to seeing. The people on the call see the unflipped picture. That is why text on your shirt or a poster behind you reads backwards in your preview but correctly for everyone else.
Press Mirror to switch between the two. With Mirror off you see yourself exactly as others see you, which is handy for checking a parting, a logo or how a room looks on camera.
How to mirror or unmirror your webcam in other apps
Windows and macOS don’t have one system-wide mirror switch. The setting lives in each app, and it usually changes only your own preview:
| App | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Zoom | Settings › Video › Mirror my video |
| Microsoft Teams | Settings › Devices › Camera, or Video effects and settings during a call: Mirror my video |
| OBS Studio | Right-click the camera source › Transform › Flip Horizontal (this flips the output that viewers see) |
| Photo Booth (Mac) | Edit › Auto Flip New Items |
Get better light on your face
- Use the ring light in full screen. The white frame then fills the edges of your display and works like a soft panel light. Wider frames give more light.
- Pick the tone. Warm white flatters skin in the evening; Cool white matches daylight from a window.
- Face the light. A window or lamp in front of you beats one behind you, which turns your face into a silhouette.
- Raise the camera. Put it at eye level or slightly above for a more natural angle.
Mirror not working? Fix it step by step
-
Read the message above the picture. Camera access blocked means your browser or computer is stopping websites from using the camera (steps 2 and 3). Camera is busy means another app is using it (step 4).
-
Allow the camera in your browser. Click the icon to the left of the address bar, open Site settings (or Permissions) and set Camera to Allow. Then reload this page and press Start camera again.
Chrome and Edge site settings. In Firefox, click the crossed-out camera icon in the address bar; in Safari on a Mac, open Safari › Settings › Websites › Camera. - Allow apps to use the camera in your system. Windows 11: Settings › Privacy & security › Camera — turn on camera access for apps and for desktop apps (Windows 10: Settings › Privacy › Camera). Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera — turn on your browser, then quit and reopen it.
- Close apps that may be using the camera, such as Zoom, Teams or OBS, then press Start camera again.
- Picture black? Open the privacy shutter or remove the lens cover, and check for a camera on/off key on the keyboard (often F8, F10 or Fn + a function key).
- Phones and tablets: allow the camera for your browser — Android: Settings › Apps › Chrome › Permissions › Camera; iPhone and iPad: Settings › Apps › Safari › Camera — then reload the page.
About this webcam mirror
This online mirror runs entirely in your browser. The video goes straight from your camera to your screen — nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded. A snapshot is taken only when you press Snapshot, and it stays in this tab until you download it or close the page.
It works with built-in laptop cameras, USB webcams and the front camera of phones and tablets, in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iOS. The digital zoom works with every camera.
